About Walterboro Shines

Finding the light—and sharing it

An independent community platform built from a need for something hopeful, useful and welcoming.

Walterboro Shines did not begin with a grand business plan. It grew from a personal need to find something positive during a time when the world felt increasingly heavy.

Since COVID, many of us have experienced loss, isolation and uncertainty. Political division has strained relationships. Rapid growth and change in South Carolina have made familiar places feel different. Roads are busier, prices are higher, and headlines about immigration and enforcement can leave people feeling afraid or divided.

During this time, I also lost my mother. Life continued moving even when grief made moving forward difficult. I know she would not want sadness to have the final word. I needed good news to help me keep going.

That need became Walterboro Shines.

Why Walterboro Shines exists

I have always been naturally drawn to positivity and acceptance. I believe people deserve to feel seen, welcomed and reminded that they matter—regardless of their background, circumstances or differences.

Walterboro Shines was created to make room for the good happening throughout Walterboro and Colleton County. It celebrates the people, organizations and businesses helping our community while connecting residents with useful and reliable local information.

Here you may find:

  • Positive community stories
  • Local events and announcements
  • Jobs and helpful resources
  • Walterboro and Colleton County history
  • Recognition of local people, organizations and businesses
  • Information that helps neighbors stay connected

Positivity with a purpose

Positivity does not mean ignoring difficult realities or pretending everything is perfect. Walterboro Shines can acknowledge real concerns while responding with accurate information, kindness and respect.

Good news will not erase grief, division or hardship—but it can remind us that hardship is not the entire story.

As Walterboro Shines grows, the same purpose will guide its website, community projects and positive-message merchandise—including reminders such as “You Matter” and “Share the Shine.”

Behind the Shine

Meet the founder

My name is Lisa. I did not set out to create something big. I simply followed a natural desire to share encouragement, recognize what is good and help people feel more connected to their community.

Walterboro Shines continues to grow one story, one resource and one neighbor at a time.

If something good is happening, share it. If someone deserves recognition, help us celebrate them. If another person needs encouragement, remind them that they matter.

Together, we can share the shine.
